Weight lifting machines are a vital tool in developing a complete weight training program for both experienced and novice practitioners. For those unsure about whether they should get into this activity, it's a must for any true healthy physical fitness plan as weight training helps to boost metabolism, improve breathing, increase energy, burn fat, and just make the body look and feel better. In the past, free weights were the only option for those looking to weight train, but technological advances have allow for many of these complicated exercises to be condensed into a few or just one machine. Even in the past ten years, these products have greatly improved so if you've disliked them in the past, it's time to take a second look.
Machines come in two basic types: multi-function and single function, or selectorized as some companies term it. Single function machines focus on either one specific muscle group of the body or one specific motion. These are often extensions, presses, or curls, and free weight motions inspire their construction. Multi-function machines have many of these motions condensed into one space. They are far more convenient for home gyms, but may not be as adjustable as single function machines.
Another type of machine is a functional trainer. These products feature pulley systems with resistance for specific motions that use the entire body. They target muscle groups, but also improve balance and coordination between muscles.
Though machines are a great benefit they can be problematic - they tend to reduce the correct form that is necessary to work with free weights. Nonetheless, they help to develop strength and a healthy body.
