Smith Home Gyms

We Have the Greatest Selection of Home Gyms

A smith machine is a great advance developed by fitness guru Jack La Lanne in the 1950s. These machines allow for more difficult lifts, squats, and presses in a safe and protected environment without the aid of a spotter. Thanks to these machines, many athletes have been able to push their envelope of lifting ability and slow move into weight ranges that would have been unsafe or have taken a great amount of time to accomplish. Smith home gyms bring these same benefits to your home gym typically as part of a larger multi-station gym.

A smith is essentially a barbell that runs along two guided posts. The barbell can be locked at any point, so lifters can begin their lift where the ability allows them to. More importantly, a smith will prevent the swaying of a weight, which could cause a severe injury or damage to the home. These products also allow for lifters to slowly train up to a motion at increment point, which is great for training towards a full lift with the target weight.

With a multi-station gym and this product as a combo, it's a fantastic way to get a full body workout and to use the machine to benefit your progress on other areas of the body. However, it should be noted that the motions used with smith machines are not natural when it comes to performing the motions using free weights. This makes training form difficult, however, most lifters find the catch-up for form a worthy sacrifice for the advances made in weight gain.
