Weight plates are the basic tools of a weight training program. These simple products are built to different weights, half pound to more than a hundred pounds, and are constructed of usually iron, but often with other material including hard vinyl. These products allow both home and commercial gyms to provide an immense range of weight training tools in order to meet the needs of both introductory and advanced trainers. They are used in combination with many other tools such as weight bars, dumbbells, and multi-station gyms to provide flexibility and the right level of resistance for each person.
With their large range of sizes, strength training can be minutely controlled. This allows not only the appropriate weight for each person, but also the ability to judge progress as well. With each session, weight can be increased in small amounts so that progress can occur steadily instead of in larger jumps as is common with built in resistance.
These products and their bars work easily together. Weights simply slide on and off and are held in place with a clamp that also is easily removed. Weight racks conveniently hold these products when they are not in use.
Because of their flexibility, free weight systems that include these products are great for home use since they take up the least amount space and can be easily put away. However, it should be mentioned that use of these products takes special training to ensure safety, proper weight increase, and the maximum physical fitness results from use and training.
