Weight lifting is one of the top exercises to improve a person's health. It's not just about building muscle. In fact, incorporating a small amount of weight training into your regular routine will greatly increase performance in all other fitness activities including more aerobic routines like jogging or bicycling. Generally, weight training is divided into two areas: free weights and machine weights. Free weights are much more effective at building stronger bodies and improving health, however they carry with them a higher level of risk of injury. This means training for anyone using them. Machines are much more accessible and safer to use with still a huge amount of benefit from exercising on them regularly.
Weight regimes are done targeting different muscle groups of the body, getting more specific the stricter the regime. However, targeting the main muscle groups is good and healthy for most people. These areas are targeted on different days and include the back, chest, arms, abs, and legs. Don't forget to rest during training: rest is when muscle actually begins to grow.
